TIGERTAILZ Fans Seeing Double
February 9, 2006Garry Sharpe-Young of Rockdetector.com has issued the following report:
Seeing double? If you're a glam rock fan you probably are because there are two versions of TIGERTAILZ doing the rounds, both featuring original members and neither looking they are going to relinquish the name. The Cardiff-based band proved to be the only U.K. glam act to achieve anything of substance, scoring both hit albums and singles, including club hit "Love Bomb Baby".
TIGERTAILZ first came to prominence headed up by singer Steevi Jaimz (Steve Denham) for the 1987 Music For Nations debut album, "Young & Crazy". When a reputation for letting his fists do the talking got too much for the other band members, Jaimz was let go.
The remaining band members, guitarist Jay "John" Pepper, bassist Pepsi Tate and drummer Ace Finchum soldiered on, bringing in new singer Kim Hooker (Pontypridd native Andrew Jones),previously bassist for RANKELSON. A new album, "Berzerk", gave the band its biggest hit. The band then hit trouble as a follow-up album was shelved and further effort, "Banzai", only saw release in Japan. After a name change to WAZBONES, the band split.
Jaimz reformed TIGERTAILZ in 2003 with drummer Ace Finchum, the latter having just left ANGEL WITCH. This version of the band also includes former WRAITH guitarist Greg Russell on bass and ex-TATTOOED LOVE BOYS and KILLER guitarist Darayus Kaye.
The following year, Hooker, Tate and Pepper also got back together — also calling their band TIGERTAILZ. New drummer Mic Hourihan was later to be replaced by Matt Blackout.
The Jaimz / FinchumTIGERTAILZ is recording album tracks with Chris Laney, of ANIMAL and ZAN CLAN, and also included the song "King of the World" on Perris Records' "Hollywood Hairspray" glam compilation. Meantime, the Hooker-fronted TIGERTAILZ has just signed to Newcastle upon Tyne-based Demolition Records, the label run by former VENOM and SKYCLAD manager Eric Cook.
2006 promises to be interesting as two TIGERTAILZ both launch new albums!
